This article describes the images of teachers as constructs of a publicinterest in education and schools. It uses the portrayals of teachers as aproductive impulse to reflect on what the professionalisation of teachingpractice in schools and classrooms could imply, in particular focusingon the characteristics of accomplished teachers and poor teachers.Keywords: teacher professionalisation; image of the teacher
