Individual-Level Predictors for Becoming Homeless and Exiting Homelessness: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysisAbstractHomelessness remains a societal problem. Compiled evidence of predictors for becoming homeless and exiting homelessness might be used to inform policy-makers and practitioners in their work to reduce homeless-related problems. We examined individual-level predictors for becoming homeless and exiting homelessness by searching PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and Web of Science up to January...

Big Business and Fascism: A Dangerous CollusionAbstractAnxieties stemming from rising inequalities have led significant sections of the world's population to reject democratic practices and place their trust in politicians with fascist tendencies who promise to wrest control of their destinies from elites. Ironically, elite interests, far from being threatened, are bolstered by the rise of fascism, as discredited democratic institutions can be dismantled with impunity. The emerging alliance between...

Our Memories of Maxie C. Maultsby Jr. 1932–2016AbstractIn this article, the authors present the life and work of Dr. Maxie C. Maultsby, Jr, the most distinguished and influential black psychiatrist, as well as the founder of Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT), a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral therapeutic model. We document the pioneering ideas and concepts formulated by Dr. Maultsby and present RBT as a distinct form of theory-driven cognitive-behavior therapy, grounded in neurophysiology, its singular...

Interventions to support the management of work-related stress (WRS) and wellbeing/mental health issues for commercial pilotsAbstractResearch indicates that sources of work-related stress (WRS) impact on the physical, social, and psychological health of pilots. Furthermore, specific features of the job can increase a pilot's risk in relation to developing a mental health (MH) issue. It is impossible to remove all stress from the work life of pilots. A high stress situation may not necessarily be...

The strong-consistency of the proposed functional estimator and associated plug-in predictor is formulated. The simulation study undertaken illustrates their large-sample size properties. Vectors are frequently arthropods, such as mosquitoes, ticks, flies, fleas and lice. Vectors can transmit infectious diseases either actively or passively: Biological vectors, such as mosquitoes and ticks may carry pathogens that can multiply within their bodies and be delivered to new hosts, usually by biting. Mechanical vectors, such as flies can pick up infectious agents on the outside of their bodies and transmit them through physical contact. Diseases transmitted by vectors are called vector-borne diseases. Many vector-borne diseases are zoonotic diseases, i.e. diseases that can be transmitted directly or indirectly between animals and humans. These include for example Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, West Nile virus, Leishmaniosis and Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever. Many vector-borne diseases are considered as emerging infectious diseases in the European Union: a disease that appears in a population for the first time, or that may have existed previously but is rapidly increasing in incidence or geographic range. Some vectors are able to move considerable distances. This may affect the transmission ranges of vector-borne zoonotic diseases. Vectors can be introduced to new geographic areas for example by: travel of humans and international trade; animal movement, for instance of livestock; migratory birds; changing agricultural practices; or the wind. Other factors may play a role in their establishment and persistence in new areas, including climatic conditions.

A review on the health hazards of anabolic steroidsSummary In 1935, testosterone was finally isolated and synthesized, and testosterone-analogs soon entered the world of sports. Today, the use of these performance-enhancing agents is no longer confined to the elite sports milieu, and the lifetime prevalence of anabolic steroid use among men is estimated to be around 6%. Unfortunately, these drugs are not without side effects, and the most common somatic adverse drug reactions are gynaecomastia, infertility,...

The Greater Omentum – A Vibrant and Enigmatic Immunologic Organ Involved in Injury and Infection ResolutionOnce thought of as an inert fatty tissue present only to provide insulation for the peritoneal cavity, the omentum is currently recognized as a vibrant immunologic organ with a complex structure uniquely suited for defense against pathogens and injury. The omentum is a source of resident inflammatory and stem cells available to participate in the local control of infection, wound healing, and...

Triple Trouble: A Case of Multiple Resistance Mechanisms after First Generation EGFR-TKI in NSCLCEpidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-targeted therapy has become standard of care in advanced stages EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer. Acquired resistance to first-line EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) and subsequent disease progression is a common problem and mostly due to a secondary mutation (T790M) in EGFR. We report a case of a patient with EGFR-mutated lung adenocarcinoma who developed...
