[Perspectives] Bespoke practice

Joshua is a most unusual tailor. For tailors, bespoke is a process of creating a unique garment for one individual person. Synonymous with high quality, and often shorthand for expensive, the obvious focus of bespoke is its outcome—a suit, say, or a jacket. To Joshua, however, bespoke is more than a product or even a process. Bespoke for him is a philosophy, encapsulating not only how he does his work but also the principles that underpin it. Since our first meeting more than 7 years ago, Joshua and I have continued to explore the similarities and differences between his world of tailoring and mine of medicine.
