Addressing the palliative setting in advanced lung cancer should not remain a barrier: a multicentre study

Communication about the palliative setting in advanced cancer remains a barrier : Only 45% of patients know they cannot be cured. Nevertheless, this study shows that this knowledge seems important, as it goes along with awareness of the primary goal of palliative treatment. Treating oncologists need to know that it is beneficial to make patients aware of the fact that treatment cannot cure them, as this will lead them towards other choices better suited to palliative treatment. Moreover patients are willing to have this conversation.
