Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is important globally, particularly in sub–Saharan Africa and the Asian-Pacific region. Clinical manifestations of HBV infection range from acute to chronic to fulminant hepatitis. Severe long-term adverse outcomes include the development of liver cirrhosis, hepatic decompensation, and hepatocellular carcinoma [1]. Preventive strategies and effective treatment of HBV infection are essential for global control. To achieve this goal, we need to understand more about the diversified profiles of HBV infection [2].
