Comments on “Prevalence of contact allergy in the general population in different European regions” and “Prevalence of fragrance contact allergy in the general population of five European countries”

Abstract

We read with interest the two articles by Diepgen TL et al.1,2 on the prevalence of contact allergy, and the prevalence of fragrance contact allergy in the general population. The possibility to draw conclusions about the occurrence of disease in the general population from prevalence studies depends on the representativeness of the studied sample. In Materials and Methods is stated “A random sample was selected from the general population, based on electoral precincts…” and “The study followed a stratified, proportional, sampling-with-replacement design.”
