Radioactive iodine-125 seed localization as an aid in reoperative neck surgery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Scarring and disrupted tissue planes add to already-complex neck anatomy and make localization of nonpalpable pathology difficult in cervical endocrine reoperations. We describe the use of radioactive iodine-125 seed localization (RSL) in 6 patients with metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and 2 with recurrent hyperparathyroidism.
METHODS: Eight patients had 2-D ultrasound-guided RSL of the target lesion, 0-3 days preoperatively. Intraoperative gamma probe (Neoprobe) was used to plan incision placement and localize the implanted seed. Recorded operative variables included: number of lymph nodes (LNs) harvested, estimated blood loss (EBL), operative time, length of stay (LOS) and RSL and operative complications.
RESULTS: All patients had successful resection of the targeted area and removal of the radioactive seed. There was no seed migration. Two complications occurred in the thyroid group.
CONCLUSION: Radioactive iodine 125 seeds facilitate successful localization of endocrine pathology during reoperative cervical procedures.

Zinc-based triazole metal complexes for efficient iodine adsorption in water.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2021 Feb 06;:

Abstract
Radioactive iodine is extremely harmful to the environment, and it is of great significance to develop materials that efficiently remove iodine. We prepared two triazole metal complexes with simple method, denoted as Zn(tr)(OAc) and Zn(ttr)(OAc), which were used to adsorb iodine from aqueous solution. The properties and adsorption mechanism of the two materials were studied by different techniques including XRD, SEM, N2 porosimetry at 77 K, FTIR, TGA, elemental analysis (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results showed that both materials had good water and thermal stability. Pseudo-second-order kinetic model was better at describing the iodine adsorption kinetics onto the adsorbents. It was proved that chemical adsorption dominated, iodine mainly enriched on the materials in the form of I3-1. Zn(ttr)(OAc) had a higher adsorption capacity than Zn(tr)(OAc) due to the electron-donating group -NH2. The maximum adsorption capacity of the two materials for iodine reached 714.501 mg·g-1 and 846.108 mg·g-1 at 25 °C.

Free Flap Reconstruction in a Tongue Cancer Patient with Nephrotic Syndrome: A Case Report

Abstract

Free flap has become crucial for reconstruction in head and neck oncology post resection since the time of its advent. It has shown a high success rate and provides a better quality of life over loco regional flaps. Literature has shown the success of free flaps does get influenced by preexisting medical conditions of the patient. Nephrotic syndrome being a hypercoagulable state doesn't find much mention in literature and its effect on free flaps has been less studied. Hence, using a free flap in such condition creates a decision making dilemma. Here we present a case report to show the feasibility of such flaps in nephrotic syndrome patients under structured environment successfully.

Cranial aseptic osteomyelitis associated with pyoderma gangrenosum.

Abstract
Neutrophilic dermatoses include a heterogeneous group of entities. Uncommonly, they can accumulate aseptic neutrophilic abscesses in other tissues in addition to the skin. A 34-year-old female complained of a headache which was unresponsive to usual drugs. A TAC revealed an osteolytic lesion in the right parietal bone. The biopsy showed osteomyelitis. One year later, pyoderma gangrenosum appeared in the anterior aspect of both legs. The headache and the cutaneous lesions disappeared after treatment with oral prednisone. The bone involvement in the background of neutrophilic dermatoses is exceptional. Usually, it involves children in the context of chronic recurrent multiple osteomyelitis (CRMO). Only two cases have been described in adults. One of them was a 26-year-old woman who had had CRMO since childhood, and the other one in contiguity with the cutaneous lesions of pyoderma gangrenosum.
