Calcinosis cutis

Calcinosis cutis: a condition in which calcium deposits form in the skin. This can result from a number of conditions, but is most commonly due to the process known as dystrophic calcification, in which calcium deposits develop in the body as a response to injury and healing of tissues. It also can be seen in individuals with malignant or benign tumors, inflammation, certain skin or soft tissue infections, autoimmune conditions like systemic sclerosis, and metabolic disorders. In some individuals, firm nodules or lumps can be felt beneath the skin.

Also referred to as cutaneous calcification.
