Ovarian Ablation for Premenopausal Breast Cancer: A Review of Treatment Considerations and the Impact of Premature Menopause

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in North American women and is the second most common cause of cancer mortality. Over 250,000 women in North America will be diagnosed with breast cancer each year and approximately 20% will die from the disease.[1,2] Though the majority of women diagnosed are postmenopausal, 18-21% of cases occur in premenopausal women and 60% of these women have estrogen-receptor positive tumors.[1,3]
