Trajectories of lung function growth and decline in childhood asthma determine the risk for future chronic respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). McGeachie et al (Am J Respir Crit Care Med 2016; http://ift.tt/2ceW7CJ) assessed the genetics of lung function patterns in patients with childhood asthma. They performed a genome-wide association study of 581 non-Hispanic white asthmatic patients in whom patterns of lung function growth and decrease were known (Normal Growth, Normal Growth with Early Decline, Reduced Growth, and Reduced Growth with Early Decline).
