Rapid melanoma induction in mice expressing oncogenic BrafV600E using Mitf-cre

Mutations in the BRAF serine/threonine kinase are found in 50-70% of human cutaneous melanomas. The most common alteration is V600E, a change which induces constitutive activity. Two groups have independently developed transgenic mice to express Braf^V600E at physiological levels from the endogenous Braf locus after recombination mediated by cre recombinase.
