Last week saw the publication of a report on the long-term sustainability of the National Health Service (NHS) and adult social care in the UK. The report, published on April 5, was the outcome of a year-long inquiry by a House of Lords Select Committee, chaired by the crossbench peer and obstetrician Narendra Patel. The Committee's main conclusion is that unless several changes are implemented, the NHS and adult social care system will be unsustainable. Radical service transformation, long-term funding solutions, and immediate action on adult social care are needed.
