The present essay proposes to re-think ethics through the looking glass of gender. This process of engendering is a genre of criticism that challenges more traditional ethical theories. Feminist ethics in its many varieties has played an important role in broadening the concerns and methods of moral philosophy. One such example is feminist’s engagement with narrative ethics. The work and lives of Susan Brison, Rita Charon and Martha Nussbaum are exemplary in this regard. The discussion of the merits of each of these positions is followed by a brief critical evaluation of the narrative approach in general. These criticisms lead to the strategy of reflective equilibrium which allows for a balance between stories and principles when solving ethical dilemmas.
